Cleaning the Beast

A Colour correction followed by a Ceramic Prime 3 year

9H protection to a 12 year old Honda Accord 2.4 i-VTEC Estate.

Images before the process started..... Finished results at the end of this blog.

The European and Japanese Accords were integrated on the previous Japanese Accord's chassis, but with a new body. No longer made in Swindon, those Accords were made in Japan, and came in both sedan and estate form.

At its introduction in 2003, it won the Car of the Year Japan Award for a record third time. In Europe the car featured a 2.0 i-VTEC with 152BHP, a 2.4 i-VTEC with 187BHP. The vehicle featured is the 2.4 i-Vtec, Estate.

This Honda was registered in 2007 and has never received a specialist valet and had succumbed to 12 years of poor and bad cleaning practices.

The object of the valet and ceramic coating was to bring the colour back and remove as many of the cleaning swirls accumulated over the 12 years. The car was also quite dirty.

Mark and Marque2pro valeting and detailing has accumulated many years of experience on a wide variety of vehicles from the family car to exotic super cars.

Why a Ceramic Coating?

When a vehicle is exposed to the sun, its paint will begin to oxidise, resulting in dulled and faded paint. A layer of Ceramic Coating protects a vehicle’s paint from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, thereby reducing the amount of oxidation.

Another danger for your car is chemical staining from naturally acidic contaminants. By creating a chemically resistant surface, a Ceramic Coating can keep some contaminants from bonding to your vehicle’s paint. The result is that your vehicle will be more resistant to staining and etching, provided the contaminant is removed in a timely manner.

Your cars paintwork is comprised of multiple layers from bare metal panel coated with a primer, the base coat colour, thickness varies with manufacturer, a clear coat lacquer with UV protection. The finish on the Honda's tends to be softer than other makes so care needs to be taken when doing a colour correction,

Professional machine enhancement will significantly reduce or eliminate defects such as:

Water spot marks

Holograms (Marring)

Swirls

Etching

Fine scratches

Random deep scratches

Stone chips Oxidisation

Wheel Clean

We use a non-acid, non-alkaline alloy wheel cleaner, and in over 90% of cases no agitation is required. Where additional treatment is required we will use a soft brush treatment.

Our pH neutral formulation reacts with the oxidising surface of the metallic particles rendering it water soluble, the rapid removal of this microscopically rusted surface reduces the embedded particle size and releases it from the surface. Unlike acid based alloy wheel cleaners, this method is harmless to the wheel’s finish. The reaction is seen by a rapid colour change from clear to deep red. After a simple hose, rinse down or jet-wash it leaves the wheel spotless. In severe cases the included wheel brush can be used to assist the process.

As vehicles brake, the dust generated from pads, discs and drums are at high temperatures, producing a hot cloud of thousands of hot metallic particles, these bombard the wheels finish and effectively embed themselves on to the wheel.

Snow Foam and mitt wash

Before we physically touch your vehicle we will pre-wash with Snow Foam to remove as much of the dirt and contaminants from your vehicle.

The Snow Foam we use is a new generation premium quality, foaming water-based pre wash treatment, designed to soak and saturate soiled vehicle paintwork prior to the application of vehicle shampoo and paint food. The foam is gentle specifically formulated for use with all pressure washer foam lances. Applied at a typical PIR (Panel Impact Ratio) of 4%, auto-foam will panel dwell for typically 5 minutes. Snow Foam is formulated specifically to offer maximum wetting, it rinses easily too. Your vehicle will then be rinsed from the top to the bottom in a methodical process that prevents those missed areas.

Single stage colour paint correction

Oxidization will cause your bodywork to fade and it may also be contaminated with a layer of bonded dirt and grime. This is removed during the previous clay bar process. Light hitting scratches the light will refract in different directions creating a dull looking finish.

Your cars paintwork is comprised of multiple layers from bare metal panel coated with a primer, the base coat colour, thickness varies with manufacturer, a clear coat lacquer with UV protection. Meguiar's DA Microfibre Correction Compound utilises super-micro abrasive technology to quickly remove scratches, acid rain, swirls/holograms and other light to moderate defects on factory paint. Used with the Meguiar's Microfibre Cutting Disc it delivers no sling, low dusting performance for minimal prep and clean up time.

Ceramic Aqua Coat Prime

Ceramic Farm Ceramics next generation of automotive ceramic coatings.

qua Coat Prime, with its unique beading properties is an “AIR DRIED” Professional Hardened Ceramic Coating.

This “Air Dried” Professional coating has 2 hours drying time, and is highly recommended for use by Professional Detailers, the best single layer Professional Grade coating on the market today. Mark will make sure the paintwork is thoroughly cleaned/prepared and panel wiped using a proprietary panel wipe to ensure paintwork is contaminant free. Using an applicator block he applied a small amount directly on to the block, wiping over the vehicle in straight lines, leaving it to bond for around 30 seconds. He then gently wiped the surface with a microfibre buffing cloth until no smears were visible on the surface. Excess product (smears) would be removed with a damp mircofibre buffing cloth, however this was not necessary.

The finished result was truly amazing:
